debian mentors/ glossary/ debdiff

debdiff is a tool from the devscripts package that will compare two version of a package and show you the differences between them.

The first thing it will show you is the differences in the ControlFile, but only if you have the wdiff. This is useful to spot any problems such as brocken dependencies, or big changes in the installed size of the package.

The other thing you will be shown is the changes in the list of files the package. This can help catch mistakes like accidentally adding or removing files.
